Wassand Hall, down by the lake.

Plein air oil on board 12 x 10
The last of the open days for this initial opening saw us here at Wassand Hall, a delightful house reminiscent of Mr.Bennett's house in Pride and Prejudice, by Jane Austin, as we like to think. Regency style with a strong nod to the earlier Georgian. The Hall has significant historical connexions with links going back to pre-conquest times. The grounds are modest yet charming. A small lake can easily be circumnavigated in a few minutes, yet manages to create many interesting vistas. At one end I noticed the lifebelt ring attached to a post which also had a warning sign attached. I decided to paint this view and include the these items. The yellow flag iris were just beginning to show in places amongst the reeds, campion also evident here and there. Water lilies in front of nearby reeds promise some beautiful flowers soon, I wonder which colour they will be.This view shows part of the lake heavily surrounded by a variety of greens which were reflected in the still water. Well worth a visit.
